Saber Streamlines Arizona State Retirement System Document Access

Top IT solutions provider to state and local governments helps ASRS reduce work backlogs and increase worker productivity

Portland, OR – June 13, 2006 – Saber Corp. announces that it has teamed up with FileNet Corporation to deliver an automated form-tracking system for the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) that has been recognized by the American Council for Technology (ACT) as a finalist for its Intergovernmental Solutions Award for 2006.

ASRS’ challenge was to improve customer service to the agency’s 61,681 annuitants, 326,087 active members and 715 participating employers.  The system was to also provide ASRS with a foundation that supported the conversion of 14 million pages of documents, stored on paper, microfilm and microfiche to the new electronic system.  The system enables quick access to desired documents, plus simultaneous access by people in different service areas, while providing for a significant growth in retirees served over the next decade.  An additional requirement was to couple the new content management system to ASRS’ existing Public Employee Retirement Information System (PERIS).

“We held a competitive review of 10 solution providers and selected the Saber/FileNet solution as the lowest-risk approach,” said Patrick O’Keefe, ASRS Network Information Systems Manager. “Saber made the difference by tying the new application to our existing system; we didn’t need to learn a new system.”

“Saber is all about delivering technology that helps governmental agencies better serve citizens,” said Allen Russ, Saber Vice President.  “Our deep experience with retirement systems and FileNet technology, has helped ASRS cut some request service times by over 80%.”

ACT selected the Saber/FileNet project as an Intergovernmental Solutions Award finalist from a list of more than 60 nominated projects “because it clearly demonstrates the progress government agencies at all levels are accomplishing through collaboration and the innovative use of technology.”
